Well, here it is. Another album. Another all-too-long amount of time to make this one. Thankfully, it's the last TDC album. Just download it/buy a hard copy and read the inside album art if you really want to know what this album is all about. I'm not feeling quite as verbose as the last time, so I'll just give my happy little technical data for those who are interested. First off, there was no software used in the creation of this album for the purpose of synthesis or effects. Unfortunately, it was recorded and mixed on a computer, but it won't happen again. It was however mastered in the analog domain on a Teac reel-to-reel tape deck. Behringer gear was used wherever possible, particularly in the department of effects. This is not because I'm endorsing them, but because I wanted to prove that it doesn't take the most expensive gear possible to make a great album. As long as you're not using software (i.e. going out of your way to make it sound like shit), that's really all that matters in the end.

This was a hard album to make. Lots and lots of setbacks occurred through the process of this beast. Everything from lineup changes, gear thefts, studio moves, and financial woes has caused the full completion of the album to take well over a year. We accidentally kinda turned this into a concept album. The concept being presented can be interpreted a multitude of different ways. My own personal version of the story is a play on what people will inevitably think that the band name means. A person goes on a hallucinogenic trip to understand the world around him, and things go terribly wrong so that all is seen is the world collapsing and tearing itself apart only to be revealed at the end of the 'trip' that everything he sees is real. There was no real trip but rather an inner awakening to the ways of the world. By the time he realizes that he has been a zombie (The Comatose Insomniac) all his life and decides to do something to make a change and revolutionize the planet, its too late. So he sits back to watch the universe as he knows it make a return to less civilized times (as represented by the final clear tone of the album being a didgeridoo.) Apathy becomes knowledge becomes action returns to apathy. Any way you look at the way the album is presented, its hard to justify calling it a 'drug' album, and so it renders the whole "Inhale/Exhale" thing into nothing more than an inside joke. (If anybody out there is wondering, we are by no stretch of the imagination a 'drug band.') The artwork is an interesting story in and of itself. Originally, what I wanted to do was to present a completed product to an artist, and let the music tell him/her how the album should look to that person. Due to events outside of my control, though, what ended up happening was that he has the track listing and the album's title to go with. He did end up making two versions of the artwork. The one that's going to end up being sold at shows is a more straightforward "Skulls, skulls, and more skulls!" design which hopefully will appeal to people who have just seen the shows and have an insight into how we present ourselves as an act. The other version (which is being sold through Cafe Press with some extra tracks to make up for the fact that they're more expensive to do online) is closer to being an artist's rendition of the music. The layout of the artwork and the suit and tie guy both say that on the outside, everything is clean-cut and aesthetically pleasing but on the inside (the tie-guy's mouth and the inside of the booklet) it's all jagged, destructive, and just generally all fucked up. I'm really happy with the way this thing came out, and I feel that the whole project was generally time well spent. One of the side-effects of the artwork being the way that it is, is that I wanted the whole thing to be presented as an art project, with more emphasis being on imagery than the contents of the album. What this means is that I got the chance to cop out and not have to deal with the pressures of doing a thank you list. However, I need to show my appreciation at some point and not make myself and the band seem to be a bunch of egomaniacs, so here it is, if you care to read...
